PLACES TO STAY
Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway, nestled on the edge of the native bush of the Kaimai-Mamaku National Forest Park at Waiorongomai, near Te Aroha.
Our high end Miners Retreat has been custom built to be a high end accommodation hideaway. The name is a nod to the area of Waiorongomai, an old gold mining field of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.
We have styled this new build to feel like a miners cottage, like it belongs to the area and its history of the region.
Located an easy 5 mins drive (approximately 10km) out of Te Aroha township, follow Old Te Aroha Road until you reach Waiorongomai Loop Road, the first on your left hand side. This is a dirt road and you will wind around two corners until you find us on the left hand side, number 111.
Waiorongomai was the location of the towns first gold mine. A tranquil area now famous for the DOC administered hikes in the native bush, gold mining relics (check out Butlers Incline and the Queen May Incline) and swim in the crystal clear river.
